The trees have mostly lost their leaves now, but the autumn colours were lovely while they lasted.

- I'm a scientist with an interest in history, particularly the history of Britain in the 5th-10th centuries AD (i.e. between the departure of Rome and the Norman invasion). I write scientific journal articles, for which I get paid, and historical and fantasy fiction, for which I don't. I'm a keen hillwalker, though I live in the flatlands of East Anglia. I'm a devotee of BBC Radio 4, the network that justifies the license fee all by itself. Carla Nayland is a pen name.

Oh, lovely pics. Autumn colours are so beautiful.
I'm really annoyed with muself for losing a set of new pics transferring them between camera and laptop last night. Your lovely pics reminded me of my carelessness!

Beautiful Carla - a wonderful reminder of how the trees were before the winds came.
Great pictures. Our autumn never lasts very long here in Illinois -- it seems we go from summer to winter within a very short time. I have to travel further north to see more dramatic examples of foliage!

How long do the Autumn colors usually last? Where I live, the colors are usually best in November. By now, most of the leaves are completely gone, though surprisingly this year, I still see some trees with colored leaves, mostly Bradford Pear trees.
