Annales Cambriae and Bede often differ by a year or a few years in the dates they give for the same event (there are some examples in my post on Dating the Battle of Chester). It's easy to see how this sort of minor discrepancy would arise when dealing with records in regnal years, or by miscopying the wrong line in a book of Easter tables, and it is probably no big deal.Carlahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11901028520813891575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19922276.post-58189206108091181412013-10-24T03:01:13.043+01:002013-10-24T03:01:13.043+01:00Catching up late ...

(Which helps explain why Bede would encourage AD dating.)

But Urien's son, no less, presiding at an English royal baptism, and/or making 'many converts', goes against the stereotype - owed largely to Bede, I'd imagine - that the native British church mostly sat on its hands about christianizing the English.

Which I imagine is why there will be more on this in an upcoming post.Rickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16932015378213238346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19922276.post-74934580548618783452013-10-20T12:39:37.971+01:002013-10-20T12:39:37.971+01:00Quite - I can recognise a few words, but not enoug...Quite - I can recognise a few words, but not enough to get very far! I was thinking that as a poet you might be able to pick up some of the rhythms of the original, and that those might be of interest to you.Carlahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11901028520813891575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19922276.post-21027680276394182202013-10-19T02:35:12.221+01:002013-10-19T02:35:12.221+01:00I think the original language is a bit beyond me a...I think the original language is a bit beyond me at this point.
