If you happen to feel like putting a review on Amazon, I'm sure Catherine Hanley would be very pleased!Carlahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11901028520813891575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19922276.post-42374272830120021622010-01-17T18:13:45.807+00:002010-01-17T18:13:45.807+00:00I will do, Carla! By the way, I recently read Catherine Hanley's Sins of the Father after reading your review of it a while back, and loved it.Kathryn Warnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00397714441908100576noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19922276.post-42605270550126945372010-01-17T13:08:35.070+00:002010-01-17T13:08:35.070+00:00Gabriele - it's more of a thriller than a myst...Gabriele - it's more of a thriller than a mystery in the whodunnit sense of the word. If you liked Breem's other novels I'd say this is well worth a try.

Stephanie - Hello and welcome! Cleopatra Selene and Juba are quite different in this book to their portrayal in Michelle Moran's Cleopatra's Daughter, and they are secondary characters rather than the main focus. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts if you read The Legate's Daughter.

Alianore - it's well worth reading, and if you do read it let me know what you think.

Rick - it's much darker and more ambiguous than Falco, and you don't get a gag on every page :-)

Sarah - Yes, I agree - you feel much more involved when you have to work things out for yourself, provided you have the time and mental energy available to concentrate! It's one I intend to re-read again; I expect to see yet more things I missed on previous times round.Carlahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11901028520813891575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19922276.post-57439283817228636092010-01-16T13:37:31.516+00:002010-01-16T13:37:31.516+00:00I love this novel almost as much as Eagle In The S...I love this novel almost as much as Eagle In The Snow. I first read it years ago and second what you say about its intricacies but it's well worth another read and all the more rewarding for needing the reader to concentrate - I love novels like that when I'm in the mood: they make me feel like an active rather than a passive reader. Curtius Rufus is an appealingly flawed character. As you say, it's more le Carre than Scarrow.Sarah Cuthbertsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17841282823433026980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19922276.post-74126868836931416952010-01-15T17:04:18.400+00:002010-01-15T17:04:18.400+00:00Probably it is only the mystery plot that makes me...Probably it is only the mystery plot that makes me immediately compare and contrast Curtius Rufus with M. I enjoy political thrillers, and with an accurate and well-drawn historical background to boot - will definitely have to read this one!Kathryn Warnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00397714441908100576noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19922276.post-90588349874046142902010-01-14T21:03:26.779+00:002010-01-14T21:03:26.779+00:00As I love all things relating to Cleopatra Selene ...As I love all things relating to Cleopatra Selene and Juba II, I'm totally getting this book.
